Frequently Asked Questions

About Behavioural consultations:

How do I organise a consultation/training?

You can contact me via telephone or e-mail. I can discuss the problem with you over the phone so that the best service can be given to your dog. For the client, this means that they can ask any further questions as regards to my services or gaining more information about me. A full veterinary health check is advisable before the start of any behaviour problem to ensure that any possible medical causes for your dog’s behaviour can be ruled out.

How long will the consultation take?

A consultation will last approximately 2 hours. The consultation is carried out in or around the dog’s home. All members of the household should be present during consultations and/or training (this includes children) because everyone has a part to play in helping improve the dog’s behaviour. During this time I will be able to fully understand what is causing the problem and put together a tailored programme to improve it. During my visit I will practically show you how to carry out the aspects of the programme and explain the programme itself. All consultations will be backed up by a written report that is posted onto the client a couple of days after my visit.

What happens after a consultation or training session?

The owner will be expected to follow the programme – length of time necessary will however depend on the type of the behavioural problem and also from dog to dog. Continuing support is available via telephone or e-mail for any concerns or questions about the programme or the dog’s behaviour. Clients are often asked to keep a log/diary and to contact me one week into the programme for a progress report. In some cases it my be beneficial to arrange follow-up visits. It is important to note that the number of visits necessary will depend on the type of behavioural problem.

How much does it cost?

Many pet insurance companies will cover the cost of a behavioural consultation as long as you have been referred by a vet.

The fee is fully inclusive of all of the following:

  • Initial 2 hour consultation.
  • Travel costs within a 15 mile radius of Gravesend.
  • Written summary of the consultation and the recommendations.
