Teddy’s Bonus Biscuit: Creating consistent canine boundaries.
Your puppy/dog can benefit from the start by:
- Establish boundaries and keep to them. Allowing a puppy on the furniture may be cute when the young, but can be a difficult habit to break when the puppy becomes an adult dog or when you purchase new furniture.
- Agree to use the same words when training. Teaching a puppy/dog to lie down using the word “down” but then asking the puppy to get “down” if they are jumping up only confuses them.
- Write down your training commands and your rules. This helps all members of the family stick to what has been agreed.
- Establish your boundaries and rules at the beginning within your home/garden/car/walks using positive training techniques.
- Play fighting only teaches puppies/dogs to use their teeth. There are many games and toys that can channel the energy into a more constructive game.
Helping your puppy/dog from the start benefits them greatly to develop into a secure and happy family pet.
