The Bonus Biscuit 3/3/17

There are many toys that can benefit playtime with your dog. Playtime is great for bonding which in turn helps with training.

Did you know that dog toys fall into three categories:

  1. Activity or Action toys – These are to help your dog with some mental stimulation and can include food activity toys, interactive toys and puzzles.  Other toys which fall into this category are toys that owners can interact with their dog, from rope toys, squeaky toys, various sizes of balls to fetch, catch and find.
  2. Distraction or Attraction toys – These can be used to help your dog focus on something else and these can include the above activity toys, but also include squeaky toys, balls on ropes, and knotted ropes which can be used when you are out walking with your dog.  Other toys to use for distraction or attraction are toys that you can fill with food/treats, where your dog has to search and find the treats or food, or food that you can freeze for hot days.
  3. Comfort toys or Snuggle toys – These are useful for puppies and some adult dogs to cuddle up to or carry around and can include suitable soft toys.

Remember no toy is indestructible so it is important never to leave your puppy or dog alone with a toy that they could destroy.
