Teddy's Top Training Tip and Bonus Biscuit 16/11/17

Teddy’s Top Training Tip: You must be sure that your dog will respond to your voice when off lead.

Letting your dog off lead allows your dog some free running, physical stimulation and enjoyable play time.

Before you allow your dog off lead, practicing recall is important. Some useful tips for practicing your recall:

  • Have a variety of tasty treats, toys and games.
  • Always use the same phrase to call your dog back.
  • Teach your dog to remain sitting and not to grab the treat and run off.
  • Start off in a quiet area, before venturing to a more distracting environment.

Points to consider when you are going to take your dog out on a walk:

  • Have your treats or toys ready to reward your dog.
  • Never use the same word or phrase to call your dog or allow your dog to walk freely beside you.

Remember:

  • When your dog is off lead, this should be supervised off lead.
  • You need to know where your dog is at all times and what he or she is doing.
  • Situations can get out of hand quickly, so keep an eye on your dog and make sure you can call your dog back to you to avoid any trouble or problems.
  • Stay calm, practice and be consistent with your training.
