Teddy's Top Training Tip 04/01/2018

Teddy’s Top Training Tip: Train to focus on including exercise, socialisation and having fun.

At the start of the year let’s unleash your inner puppy and look at ways that your goals can include your dog too. Remember it’s never too late to start that training programme.

Help to banish your boredom by looking at a fun filled programme for 2018 that includes new experiences for you and your dog.

To kickstart your 2018 programme, here are a few ideas:

  • Look for new activities to do with your dog: fly-ball, agility, freestyle to music, nose work, etc.
  • Look for adventures such as new visits to country parks, river walks, beach walks, etc.
  • If you are nervous about going to new places, look to join a dog walking group, here in Kent Teddy’s Trekkers is social group that meet regularly.
  • Keep your dog’s mind stimulated and try your hand at further obedience, dog trick classes or at home research some food activity toys.
  • If your dog is overweight, then speak to your veterinary surgeon about your dog’s diet. Remember that diet impacts on a dog’s health and wellbeing. Having a healthier diet and programme can promote a healthier and happier dog.

Visit your veterinary surgery to give your dog a yearly health check.

  • Teeth – check your dog’s teeth/gums regularly and make sure that they are cleaned once a day.
  • Weight – have your dog weighed at your veterinary surgery. Know your dog’s weight and what it should be.
  • Healthy coat and nails – regular grooming and a good balanced diet with access to fresh water all helps keep their coats and nails in tip top condition.

Remember: Make 2018 the year you eliminate boredom, improve health and wellbeing and do something new with your dog.
