Teddy’s Top Training Tip:Be Prepared to work at your dog training.

The time you take training your dog is vital to help nurture your relationship with him. Good
relationships from the start will be important as training your dog life skills he will need throughout his daily life.

Here are some helpful training tips:

  • Do not expect fast or quick results – it takes time to own a well-mannered dog.
  • Be consistent with both training and interacting with your dog.
  • The slower and methodical your training is, the quick your dog will understand you.
  • Break down your training exercises so that you have small chunks of the exercise to work on.
  • Choose different environments to help generalise the training you have worked on. For
example: the park, pavement walks, local café, etc.
  • Your dog will need time for a new training concept to sink in. This means consistent practice
    and rewards.
  • Set your dog up for success not failure.
  • A dog may work better after exercise or before a meal. Some dogs may work better before
exercise and after a small meal. Workout when your dog will be mentally ready to work.
  • Build your dog’s confidence slowly and over time he will look to you for guidance.
